Hello all,

The Jim Rothermel benefit at Nick's Rockaway Beach on Monday night was a
rousing success. We were able to draw a crowd of (guessing) 80 to 90 people,
and were able to collect a fairly substantial amount of support money for
Jim. Everyone had a good time listening and dancing. The layout of Nick's
Rockaway Beach is very conducive to our kind of music for both listening and
dancing with a large U-shaped
bar area next to a large lounge with quite a few tables and chairs and
including a dance-floor and bandstand. Also, the restaurant area is situated
so that music in the lounge is audible but not intrusive. It's a great place
to play.

The evening started with my band, the Golden Gate Rhythm Machine for about
an hour. We played a number of standard trad jazz tunes interspersed with
more danceable selections.

After about a 5-minute break, Pat Yankee and Her Gentlemen Of Jazz took to
the bandstand. The owner of the club really likes her. Actually, he really
likes all of us since the three events we've held at Nick's have more than
quadrupled his normal Monday-night business!

Following Pat, Ev Farey put together a band that played danceable swing
tunes. The Golden Gate Rhythm Machine finished the evening with a very short
set.

While we took in a good amount for Jim on Monday, anyone wishing to add to
it can do so in a couple of ways:

- Visit the Golden Gate Rhythm Machine website and donate via PayPal using
the "Donate" button there. Go to www.santhony.com/ggrm

- Send a check to Jim at 14 Seibel Street, San Rafael, CA 94901
