Scott and Karen,

I assume what we're looking at is .."Brown Bottom Bess" a Johnny Dodds era tune. I love the title and wish it had words to do for Bessie, but as far as I know it's an instrumental. I don't know of any other known bands beside the "Dogs" who picked up on it. Somebody...usually Cooper...sometimes myself..would find some obscure thing and we'd arrange it and run with it. Cooper did most of the early Louis and Dodds and Watters stuff. I brought most of the Jabbo Smith/Ikey Robinson and Franz Jackson stuff. I have no idea who arranged the Bix stuff like "Tia Juana." Mmm? I do know that part of Turk's acceptance of the "Salty Dogs" was that way back in the 50's we also went to the sources, like he did, and arranged viable arrangements of good stuff. As you know, he hired several former "Dogs" right from college.

That was a long answer,.

More than you wanted to know.

Carinos,

Tom
