Following the discussion about the usage of slang  an apposite item came up in a TV quiz show last night.

The show is called QI ( which stands for Quite Interesting) and is compered by Stephen Fry. If you dont get it in the US watch out for it. Its a goodie.

The questions concerned slang  such as cool,  etc.
It seems that  the jazz slang terms which we generally allocate to this side of the 40`s were all in use before the war (WW2 that is)
Groovy ` was apparently a reference to the groove in a record although some maintain that it was a reference to female private parts.

I am not going to get involved in that one.
