Hello Everyone! I wanted to share the following email with you:
---------------
Hello Jazz Campers 2010,
We listened to your input regarding things you would like NOTJC
to incorporate into the camp. One of the things many of you
mentioned was involving younger musicians, so this year
we are offering scholarships in each instrument, to high school
students from the NOCCA (New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts)
program. We would like to encourage and invite you sponsor one of
these young musicians if you can. Pick an instrument, donate what
you can, and you will be listed on the website as a sponsor for that musician.
We will mention you at our campers final performance and in the program.
Please help us to pass on the legacy to a new generation!
Banu, Leslie & Nita

I think this is a fantastic way to get local kids involved in the Traditional
Jazz Camp. Banu tells me that to sponsor a scholarship camper for the week is
$900.00 I'm sure they will welcome a donation in any amount and I'm hoping that
some of the concerned trad jazz fans will see this as a way to help bring the
music to the next generation. I had a great time attending the camp last year.
I'm attending again this year so I'm looking forward to meeting and playing
with the high school kids that they are going to get involved.
I also wanted to mention that if you don't play an instrument and would like to
attend the camp as a "Jazz Lover" that you can still come and enjoy the unique
experience that the camp offers. As a "Jazz Lover" you get the special "camp"
hotel rate, you get to attend all the guest lectures and camp activities that
interest you (instrumental classes, band sessions), and you take part in all the
special camp activities including the night that we have our private party/jam
session in Preservation Hall. Last year my friends Chuck and Peggy Butler (who
many of you may know as DJML listmates and wonderful jazz fans and supporters)
attended the camp as "Jazz Lovers" and it was a lot of fun having them there.
