I remember many years ago George being a guest on the British radio 
programme "Desert Island Discs", and the interviewer asked him if he'd been 
blind from birth. George replied "I'm glad you asked it in that way because 
a young reporter once asked me if I'd been blind all my life, to which I 
replied - Not yet!"
Now, sadly, the answer is Yes.
