Allan

Thank you for making mention of John Barry who died Sunday.

When I opened one of my recent programs with the theme from "Midnight
Cowboy" I mentioned to listeners how I thought he was perhaps the most
diversified of our modern soundtrack composers, citing not only that and the
Bond films but also "Somewhere in Time".

With that, one of my favorites, he composed a score around the center of
attention, Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini, and managed to
interweave it with his own compostion delivering a finished product that
gave the appearance of being the work of one single composer. The movie of
course, was pure fantasy, but was greatly enhanced by a fabulous score.

According to Wikipedia, I guess everybody had a hand in "Magnificent Seven",
with Barry composing the theme, Elmer Bernstien the remainder of the
soundtrack and even John Williams, noted composer himself, put in his two
cents playing piano on the sountrack.

Now that I have strayed a sufficient distance from OKOM and possibly
offended some, who can name the greater number of either "The Magnificent
Seven", the original "Ocean's Eleven" or "The Dirty Dozen"?....a good game
to try the next time you get together with drinking buddies.

I'll start things off with Norman Fell.
