I think we're getting all tied up in terminology.   I never played in a 
marching band,
and the term dogfight sounds unlike I would expect to hear in a marching 
band.

The dogfight chorus in a trad jazz band comes before the out chorus, 
unless it IS the out chorus.
If you listen, you can hear it after the front line takes choruses.
