[Dixielandjazz] Question about Banjos for Trad Jazz

My Aida plectrum has 22 frets.  I tune it like a guitar, only three 
halftones higher.  (My first string is a G)   I do that because I have 
played guitar for over sixty years.  Most jazz banjo technique centers 
on the right hand, anyway.   Sean Moyses demonstrates that nicely on 
youtube.

The tenor banjo is tuned like a violin, mandolin or tenor guitar.  It's 
not hard to learn, but its hard to switch back and forth from guitar.

Plectrum banjo is often tuned like a five string banjo with out the 
fifth (drone) string.   Personally, I find that tuning pretty unsuitable 
for banjo solos, but that's just my preference.

Eddie Peabody used a plectrum tuning.

Youtube took down his version of Bye Bye Blues.  He did things with a 
banjo that I would not have thought possible!!!

Youtube actually has a whole lot of stuff to answer your question.
