Joe Muranyi is of Hungarian decent. Since he has been adopted by
Hungarian jazzers (rightly so), Joe has had the opportunity to play
there on countless occasions. So, he learned the language.

Partly wrong, Gary. Joe always spoke Hungarian. That was his mother tongue.
Then he barely used it but he had the chance to polish it (and did it very
well) after he started to come to Hungary to play with us and other bands
from the late eigthies-early nineties. Joe was born in Ohio on Jan 14, 1928.
Both of his parents were born in Hungary and they spoke in Hungarian at
home, listened to Hungarian music etc. He is now recovering from serious
operations etc. but is doing fine, playing clarinet every day at home, just
for himself, not much hope to ever perform again. If you are in New York,
give him a ring (you'll find him in the phone book - if not, ask me) and
visit him. He'd be delighted.

Gary, since you mentioned playing for Change in September (well, the word
brings Obama's campaign in mind), why don't you participate in Oh Yeah Day,
too? (grin) Joe Muranyi was one of the first ones who signed up and his Oh
Yeah's can be seen on the www.OhYeahDay.com site in the Video section.

By the way, Marek in his post is referring to the Molnár Dixieland Band led
by Gyula Molnár. They are also participating in Oh Yeah Day along with many
other bands here.
