[Dixielandjazz] Tuba and string bass in early jazz

I have a copy of Dr. Souchon's "New Orleans Jazz Family Album" from
1969.

Judging from the many early New Orleans bands pictured there, guitar
and string bass were used most often indoors, and banjo and tuba
outoors (certainly easier to walk with.)
So the determining factors might have been 1) volume, and 2) mobility,
rather than any stylistic notions.

But there are exceptions, including the famous outdoor picture of the
Buddy Bolden Band (often printed backwards, but there correctly shown)
with string bass and guitar.

And many of those players were lucky to own one instrument, let alone
two. We are much wealthier these days.
