The late Australian trombonist (righthanded) John Costello used to take the 
slide off his trombone and use it as a very accurate pea shooter. At one 
club where he was working his family was in attendance. One youngish son 
(Cossie had quite a tribe) was open eyed and staring at one of the show 
girls, who was not overdressed. Cossie took off his slide, worked a bit of 
paper into a ball, and hit his son in the back of the neck. The lad yelped 
but didn't close his eyes.
