Was there anyone from the list there apart from "Limerick Louis" and me?
Bude was bright and sunny and there was some great music ..... As
always, the US interest was from the Barnharts and Jim Fryer and they're
playing around the UK , separately or together, for a few more days.
There were too many under 40s to name individuals but Amy Roberts
deserves a special mention, she's still at music college and first came
to Bude as a member of her school big band. A highly talented and
modest young woman ... so modest she doesn't seem to have a website...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wv3slUl5fDI might be of special interest
to Jeff Barnhart fans.
Tony and I were still working on our Melody Maker 1926 presentation at
breakfast on the day; one question..... apparently US musicians were
getting round UK work permit problems by getting Canadian passports ...
I realise none of you was actually /working /then but maybe you know of
people who did this?.... the audience wanted to know how easy it was to
get a Canadian passport at the time.
Referring to a previous discussion, "syncopated music" was definitely
being referred to as "jazz" and there was one reference to the fact that
"jazz" had been around for a decade. It seems to me that if that's what
they called it, that's what it was .....and who are we to say differently?
