I didn't realize Dan's response had gone to the list, or I would have responded in kind, rather than privately.
I won't repeat all I just wrote in private to Dan, but I will say this.
Don't EVER insult another person for opinions. You just aren't that good. No one is.
I've been mocked, laughed at, and ridiculed for making statements of my opinions. They are no less valid, in reality, than any of Dan's.
I will not be spoken down to by anyone in the music business. Actually, any business. It's called professionalism.
If this is an attitude common among those at the "top level" of the traditional jazz scene, well, I'm glad I'm not there. However, I know this is not a universal attitude. Makes no difference, it's insulting and shows a complete lack of class.
Yours may vary. That's what makes the world go 'round.

and no, I'm not putting on flameproof suits. Professionalism is something I've worked to learn over the years, and while I'm not perfect, I'm trying to be. This is a huge backslide, but I feel it's important.
Every performer has to have an ego, but the truly great keep it a secret.
