Dear Harry,

Here's what I know about "Chippie":

She was born in 1905 in Charleston, S. Carolina and died 1950.05.07. Her career began in the 1920's in Harlem, and then she toured with Ma Rainey's Show in the Southern States, and finally settled down in Chicago where she sang with King Oliver's Orchestra 1925-26. In 1925-29 she recorded a seies of blues where the best-known is "Trouble In Mind" accompanied by Louis Armstrong and Richard M. Jones. Shirley Clay was also her accompanist. She lived in obscurity from 1930-46, but Rudi Blesh gave her a come-back in 1946. In 1948 she sang at concerts in Paris. She was killed in a car accident in 1950.

Kind Regards

Bob Smith
