Dear Marek:

The literal translation for the phrase is as you describe it. However,  
as Dave Richoux pointed out, if you google the phrase, the popular  
translation for the this song phrase composed around 1200 AD is "Rock  
of Ages." -Ergo, the first mention of "Rock" in song. <grin>

Googling turns up a lot of information. Some true, some false. Like  
for example, check out Rock & Roll + slang and you find that some  
folks insist it was a term for "sex" long before its use as a  
descriptor for 1950s music. Having grown up during the transition, I  
tend to agree with them. <grin>

Now for the real purpose of this note. Nancie Beaven is having a  
birthday tomorrow. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, love. Let's Rock & Roll. <grin>
