The NYC Care Fusion Jazz Festival is passing by while we speak. It is
THE major NYC Jazz Festival, and produced by George Wein as the
successor to JVC and includes some heavy hitters in the jazz world,
though mostly modern.

However, on June 19, at 6 PM, in the garden of the Louis Armstrong
House in Corona, Queens County, NYC, there was a great concert by an
OKOM band consisting of Anat Cohen, Howard Alden, David Ostwald, Randy
Sandke, Benny Powell, Marion Felder, Ayana Lowe.

It was a concert of the music of Louis Armstrong. The concert goers
also got a bowl of red beans and rice prepared from Louis & Lucille
Armstrong's personal recipe. Ticket sales were limited to the first
250 people ($15). Needless to say, the concert was quickly SOLD OUT.

The festival venues are the night clubs of NYC and Carnegie Hall. To
see the schedule, go to:

NOTE that there is still time to see Evan Christopher on June 23 ($15)
sponsored by The Sidney Bechet Society, as well as Anat Cohen on June
26. ($25). Click on the "get more info" button for information about
their concerts

NOTE ALSO: The Newport (RI) Care Fusion Jazz Festival is August 6, 7,
8. For their line-up see:

Check out the Harbor Stage with the New Port All Stars, Howard Alden,
Randy Sandke, Anat Cohen, Bob Brookmeyer, Randy Brecker and George
Wein. Don't let that line up scare you. You can hear what they will
sound like with Struttin With Some BBQ, by looking at the light blue
box of the page, scrolling down on it, and clicking on Newport
Allstars. (Warren Vache on Tpt last year)

Mark O'Conner's Hot Swing will be great too. As you may know, Mark
runs a fiddle camp in summer for promising young violinists. He
awarded Jonathan Russell the Daniel Pearl Memorial Violin last summer
to use for a year as "J" is one of his most promising attendees.
