Thanks, Beth. I agree that I have heard Noel with Red Lehr and The
Rivermen do this to the proverbial pin drop hushed audience.
I have scrolled through both Bechet's autobiography and John Chilton's
biography without receiving enlightenment.
I think the message may be to just let the music speak for itself!

Hi Ginny,
This is also my (and my mother's) favorite of Sidney's songs and nobody,
but nobody, does it better than Noel Kaletsky (IMHO). Interestingly, on
one of Noel's albums he entitles it "I Remember When", and that is what
it's called on The Sidney Bechet Story CD. I don't know which was the
original nor why or when it changed. But a rose by any other name still
smells as sweet (or so the saying goes).
All the best,
Beth

I belong on the list of those who think this may be the most beautiful
jazz
tune ever written. (But, don't push me or I'll think of others. LOL)
Anyhow I've always wondered about the title. Does anyone know anything
or
where to look for anything on why Bechet titled this tune, "If You See
My
Mother" ?
Thanks!
Ginny
