Longtime Chicago jazz DJ Dick Buckley has passed away at age 85. He came to Chicago in the '50s and was a DJ on radio stations WAAF (with guys like the legendary Daddy-O Daylie), WNIB (where I first caught him and found out about the show on WAAF that he did during the daylight hours), WAIT (where he went after WAAF folded and was stuck playing "the worlds most beautiful music"), WXFM, and finally public radio on WBEZ.

Dick played mainstream jazz during the week, but his Sunday programs were always devoted to "traditional jazz." Originally this was pretty much Dixieland and swing, but by the '00s it also included some bebop. He left radio in 2008 when WBEZ dropped all of their musical programming and went all talk.
