Some time ago, Humphrey Lyttelton played a Ben Webster recording of DANNY BOY 
(real name LONDONDERRY AIR) on his BBC radio show (as mentioned in a recent 
posting to this group).
I suggested he should follow up with the mid-1940s Don Byas recording under the 
name LONDON-DONNIE
and he did.
There is an amazing contrast, Webster ascending into the beautiful 
but Don Byas really produced the heartfelt and intense -- a very different range 
of expression 

Given that both men were producing the most magnificent sounds possible on tenor 
saxophone with great sublety of tone and phrasing the contrast is really 
startling. 

It's a matter of being able to speak with the horn. 
and really Byas and Webster were saying different things
I recommend experiencing the contrast
