You don't know how true the expression
"Robert Preston's version" is.
Dress rehearsal of The Music Man. Preston couldn't cut the
original tune. Finally Don Walker suggested that the pit band
vamp "Tiger Rag." They did. Mr. Preston made up the "tune."
The original song NEVER made it to Broadway. I was assisting
Don Walker at the time and he invited me to the dress rehearsal.
