Hello all,
This has just been mentioned previously by Steve Barbone, but I want to add
my 2 cents worth. The Jamey Aebersold Jazz books were a great help to me
when I first started playing dixieland after my stint with the polka band
which pretty much dried out my brain. I have three of the books, Avalon,
Indiana, and St. Louis Blues. They are absolutely wonderful, I've worn out
two of the Avalon CDs, and then gave a third Avalon CD and book to a young
man in Mexico,. These are helpful to me still to this day. I have gone
through my clarinet songs, and plan to start working on the alto sax
improvisations (music is in the same book). There are many other publications
out, but these three were most helpful to me. Good luck to the trumpet
player, long may he wail.
