Here is a link to NPR story and 5 minute audio clip about Django - it's his
centennial.

 

An irony-was that Django's tune Nuages was recorded in Paris during the
German occupation.  Also, the Gypsies were being rounded up for the
work/death camps similar to the Jews.  However, because Django was a jazz
star, he was performing in clubs under the "protection" of his German
captors.
