*SACRAMENTO TRAD JAZZ YOUTH BAND FESTIVAL *
*Jazz with Personality*
* *
Come enjoy an entire weekend of jazz *Feb 12-14th* with the Sacramento
Traditional Jazz Society (STJS) at 3 convenient locations. Headliners
include Sacramento Jazz Festival & Jubilee emperor *Bob Draga*, guest
pianist & clinician *Jason Wanner* (Blue Street) and *Eddie Erickson*.
· The fun begins with a clinician-led jam session for festival
musicians on Fri. Feb. 12, 6-8:30pm at the newly remodeled Round Table Pizza
(Rosemont area), 9138 Kiefer Blvd. Come enjoy pizza & jazz! Free
parking. Arrive
early for best seats.
The Trad Jazz Youth Band Festival (TJYBF) will be held in two performance
venues in Capistrano Hall. The TJYBF is a scholastic band festival open to
student jazz ensembles. As the producer for Capital Public Radio Paul
Conley commented, the TJYBF is like Fox’s popular singing competition *American
Idol*, but without the competition & negative comments from judges. Festival
director *Steve Roach* welcomes jazz fans to come experience & learn about
traditional jazz as directors & student musicians perform for the festival’s
distinguished line-up of professional jazz adjudicators, clinicians &
performers. Following each band’s performance, the musicians remain onstage
for live feedback. The clinicians will use microphones so that the
audience, too, could learn from their comments.**
The general public is invited to attend:
· 8am - 5pm: Lead-Sheet Clinics throughout the day on the
second floor.
· Mid-morning lecture presentation about traditional jazz
styles
· Jazz ‘n’ Pizza Jam Session led by festival clinicians. Pizza
meals $5
· Jazz Workshop “*E”*-Factor: how to *E*xcite, *E*nergize & *E
*ngage your audience
· 6:00pm: Showcase & Awards Ceremony featuring encore
performances
· 7:00pm: Hot Jazz Dance Concert, swing dancers share the MRH
stage dance floor with the Clinicians All-Star Band. Guests may also
choose the comfortable seats of the Music Recital Hall.
Festival admission $12 ($10 in advance, *no charge for students age 21 &
under with school ID*) also cover the evening concert. Free, event parking
