I was there from 1942, desperate for the real gravy. The weren't ANY
British bands that could deliver on the level of the Americans. That's why we
haunted the record stores for recordings of State-side bands and had our ears
glued to the wireless (sorry, radio) hoping that AFN was coming in strong.
It also explains why so many British musicians joined Geraldo's navy to get
to where the action was.
