Just for you, unless you think it merits sharing...

Norman:

I think it was in Bill Crow's Jazz Anecdotes that Ralph Sutton was being
interviewed when the question was asked, "World's Greatest Jazz Band--isn't
that a bit of a pompous name?" Sutton replied "We were going the call
ourselves 'The Sheep----ers'", as the recorder was quickly switched off,
"...but we didn't." Sutton confirmed that story to me during one of the
Triangle Jazz Parties.

Norman writes: Nah, let's share it. Too good to waste. I think I'd heard
that before-maybe Bill Crow's column.

Can anyone share with us how Maddie Gibson is faring? I saw her a couple of
times, it was at Mat Domber's Arbors Records Jazz party. Mat started those
a few years after Gibson's jazz parties shut down after 30 years!

Speaking of Domber and Arbors Records, there was a feature article in the
current American Rag about him and Rachel and their service to jazz. I
attended the January Arbors piano jazz party in Clearwater. It was superb.
Our table of 10 has re-subscribed for next year's event. I guess that's the
ultimate compliment! See ArborsRecords.com for details.
