Dear Jim,

Sorry I didn't make it quite clear that I inserted the French horn 
mouthpiece into the bore of the tuba mouthpiece where it fitted quite 
snugly.
As regards intonation, this was OK as long as enough air was blown into the 
tuba.
The biggest problem was to get a reasonable quality of tone.
However, the object of the exercise was to convince the tuba player that he 
should adopt a more positive attitude to his playing.
