Dear Lovers of OKOM on the DJML List:

"What I just can't figure out" is why no one (NOT ONE!, to my knowledge) on the LIST has purchased my book, "The World in a Jug"- 'The Lore of New Orleans and Dixieland Jazz'. After all, I wrote it for YOU - the few remaining trad jazz lovers in our universe- the general public surely will not be interested. I didn't write it for fame (I am already famous and this is my 4th book) or money (at 85, I am comfortably retired) since there are at best maybe 20,000 of you out there and the numbers are dropping like flies. And, at $15 a pop, it's not going to break anyone- and it's a great book. DUH- what's the problem? Go on-line to Amazon.com NOW and bring some joy to an old truly-deserving 'struggling (young) author'.

Here's what a review, that will-I think- appear in the September AMERICAN RAG says, in part: (other reviews can be seen at the Amazon site)

The World in a Jug ispart memoir, part scrapbook (with photos, posters, programs, vignettes of greatmusicians, a list of 189 classic jazz tunes, blues lyrics, a bibliography ofjazz books and articles, letters, obituaries and newspaper clippings), and partanthology (Jim Cullum’s articles on Bix Beiderbecke are outstanding). These features make it an enjoyable book forbrowsing. But for this reviewer, the best part is Brodsky’s extensive accountsof his musical travels, meeting and hearing such an exciting array of jazzlegends. There are not many of us left who were able to catch the bands atNick’s, Jimmy Ryan’s, the Stuyvesant Casino, Hambone Kelly’s, Earthquake McGoon’s, the Hangover Club, the Beverly Cavern, et al. We are fortunateto have these vivid recollections of those glory days.
