Hi--
I got to know Mannie Klein late in his life, and even went to Holland with him fro the Breda Jazz Festival. He was a terrific guy; one of those men who did a lot of good for many people, and made the world a better place while he was here. Although not all that well-known to the public, he was respected by the greatest jazz and classical trumpet players.
He loved Ziggy, and the reason Mannie overdubbed Ziggy's famous solo was only becasue Ziggy was very ill at the time. (You can look it up, but I think he passed away not long after the film was made).
Here's to Mannie!
More soon,
--Dan.
