[Dixielandjazz] Jack Parnell RIP

Ah yes, I well remember the Jack Parnell big band of the late 50s. With Phil
Seaman on drums and a spare kit on stage, it was wonderfully exciting to see
and hear the pair of them soloing. This was the golden era of British big
bands. Plus, I have always thought that Jack Parnell was the best, most
swinging drummer that Ted Heath ever had!

What a marvellous career in conducting for a mere drummer. I used to watch
him on 'Sunday Night At The London Palladium' and think, "There you go Grah.
If Jack can do it, so can you." But of course I only swapped a drum stool
for a trombone slide and leading a Dixieland band. Hey, it's enough for me.

Vale Jack.

Grah
