Dear Bill & Jack

I owned that Clayton record that Jack refers to but haven't listened
to it for at least 45 years. However, I can recall from memory
different solo parts and strains from "Robbin's Nest" (as well as from
"Hucklebuck") as I write this. I loved that LP. It was, for me, a very
powerful swinger with the musicians each saying something important.
The solo lines from Robbins Nest were among the first I transcribed
and copied as a young wannabe, before I learned not to waste my time
playing what had already been played.

So If ozmate BH doesn't listen to it, I can only attribute it to his
being one eyed.

On the other hand, I can't remember Mezzrow ever saying much of
anything to me, which must mean my Mezzrow ears are deficient. For me
there is a world of communicative difference between Mezzrow and Pee
Wee Russell. (see BH's earlier post on that)

Ah well, that's what makes horse racing.

Cheers,
