The best modern arranging and playing I have ever heard is by Ralph Carmichael.    I was given a recording of a recent performance in Stockton by the Ralph Carmichael Big Band -- all super tasty exciting arranging by Carmichael and performance by the great L. A. recording cats he uses.   All gospel classics done the way they should be, with respect and excitement.   Huge audience responses to  the ensembles and soloists they deserved.
