Special Jazz Concert in Guilford!

The Guilford High School Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra are planning a performance tour of Italy in the spring of 2010. The students and their families are fundraising very diligently for this once in a lifetime experience. To that end, the groups are interested in a putting on a concert showcasing the talents of one of their teachers, trombonist Tom Boates in a star-studded band of traditional jazz musicians. The concert will take place on Sunday, October 25th from 2-4 PM at the Christ Episcopal Church on the Guilford Green. Tickets go on sale soon for $20.00.

While the experience itself, will be exciting, it would maximize the students fund-raising power if the expenses of the band and the concert were already met through generous “Jazz Angels”. They are looking for 7 “angels” to sponsor the musicians of the concert at $150.00 apiece. This would cover the musician's fees and incidental costs of the concert such as tickets, posters and publicity.

The Musicians are:

Tom Boates, Leader, trombone, Guilford High School Faculty and the Wolverine Jazz Band

Fred Vigorito, Cornetist/leader of the Galvanized Jazz Band and Guilford's own

Noel Kaletsky, World Renowned Clarinetist and current member of the Rivermen of St. Louis

Jimmy Mazzy, World renowned Banjoist for everything from the Prairie Home Companion to the Wolverine Jazz Band.

Al “Albie” Bernard, Noted tubist for all the Jazz Festivals in New England and many bands in local Trad Jazz History

Ross Petot Skilled stride pianist and ragtime artist currently with the Wolverine Jazz Band.

Sal Ranniello, Drummer, leader of the Cool Cat Jazz Band and percussionist of the Goodspeed Opera House.

We would be happy to offer advertisement space on our posters and program and two complimentary tickets right up front to each generous angel. Please contact Tom Boates at Guilford High School, 203-453-2741 x223 or Tom's cell at 203-215-2659, or email (boatest at guilford.k12.ct.us) by Monday, September 21, 2009. Thank you in advance for your support.
