Terry Teachout says Jazz is Dead?

Good gracious me. Not in the Boston - NYC - Philadelphia - Washington
DC corridor. IT THRIVES THERE.

Check out "Jazz Inside NY" magazine, September Issue, which you can
download in 13 MB PDF form at: (takes two minutes if you have high
speed connection)

http://jazzinsidemagazine.com/publications/guide/2009-september

You will be amazed at how much jazz is going on as detailed in the 98
page September Issue.

Check out also the article. "What's Really Going On in Jazz Education"

It goes from Page 80 to 96, then continues from page 56 to page 62.
Interesting article plus listings of schools (mostly college level)
that teach jazz and/or award BA degrees in Jazz.

Also check out the NYC club listings. MANY, though not so much OKOM.
<grin>

Besides, it is a heck of a magazine. Features some brass players this
month which brass playing list mates may find an interesting read.

Cheers,
