W've had the similar problem in Sydney (OZ) for years, pubs have closed or
been "gentrified". Now the government has woken up - the law has been
changed so that pubs or restaurants whose main purpose is not entertainment
can now employ musicians without needing a licence. The big centres filled
with rock bands will probably still need a licence and worry about all the
fire restrictions etc. that go with it, but small pubs or restaurants will
be able to hire a pianist or trio or quartet without any problem. Sanity at
last.
