Dear Margaret.
All of this rings a very faint bell.
Years ago, I seem to recall, a similar question was asked and one of  
the replies drew attention to a website which had a complete  
identification listing for nearly all the generic horns imported into  
the US from Europe back at the turn of the last century.
Dave Richoux, Bob Ringwald, Steve Barbone or Don Ingle may recall this.

But how to find it without knowing the original subject line, or how

I did a quick 'google' with no success.
