Hello all,
The Jelly Roll Morton website has been updated with 5 articles and items of
great interest and historical value.
Brian Goggin sends significantly updated details about Frank Melrose and his
family in the heading of John Steiner's article, "Kansas City Frank".
Brian Goggin sends an article about the tragic death of Frank Melrose's son
(Franklin Eugene Melrose) from The Vidette-Messenger, Valparaiso, Indiana,
dated 2nd August 1955.
Russell Shor sends a rare article from The Music Trade Review, dated 30th
October 1926. The article mentions pianist and arranger Mel Stitzel.
Mark Miller sends an article about The Patricia Orchestra (Oscar Holden)
from The Indianapolis Freeman, dated 27th December 1919. This is just a
week or so after Jelly Roll departed Holden's band in Vancouver, B.C.
Canada. Mention of Albert Padio and Ada Bricktop Smith. For additional
information, please check out Lomax's "Mister Jelly Roll" at page 170.
Prof. Albert Haim sends a rare article from The Music Trade Review, dated
27th November 1926. The article describes an advertising campaign by the
Melrose Music Co. for "Sidewalk Blues". The article features a rare
photograph of Walter Melrose.
