Last night, my friends and went to hear the New Orleans Function in
Tel-Aviv. Unlike the previous time, I did not feel like a dinosaur,
although, at 68, I was probably the oldest in the audience - the band
is young, and so is its following.
Buddy Tate said that dancing put soul in the music. How true for this
band! While it sounded good from the outset, it was even better after
the interval (intermission for American listmates), when some swing
dancers came on (they had to vacate room for the dancers).
With guest clarinettist Merton Cahm (80), the band sounded excellent.
It was purely accoustic, the only microphone being used for
announcements and singing. A lovely night!
Cheers,
Marek
