Just back from the French Quarter Quintet's performance, devoted to
Sidney Bechet's anniversary (the band's previous name was The Bechet
Poject). They are getting better and better. And a grand, even a
baby, sounds so much better than an electric piano! With a better
(and older) drummer, the band was wonderful!
And a word about the sound: despite ominously looking huge speakers,
the sound was just right. At the end of the show, I congratuladed the
sound man (who served also as a stage hand) for the great job he did.

Oh, a few words about people: Wednesday is the fourth day of the week
in this country (it's Hebrew name IS "the fourth day"). The old
Tel-Aviv port, an entertainment area now, was full, as if there were
neither work the next morning nor a recession. And the masses of cars
on the road after midnight were uncredible. OK, it is not Spain, and
the streets are not crowded all night long, but people go out and have
fun into the wee hours.
Cheers
