Has anybody ever been to the Bilmar Beach Resort on Treasure Island . Florida  ?, well they have the Suncoast Dixieland Jazz Band every Weds. night from 6:630 to 9:30p.m. under the leadership of Paul O'Connor, trombonist(he was with Charlie Spivak). The band has been in the Bilmar for 41 years and the drummer has been ther for 36 of those years, his name is Roger Athans,( a former big band drummer and he just turned 87 years old).Their bassist is none other than John Lamb,(of Duke Ellington fame), he is still with the Duke Ellington Memorial Orchrestra. So on your next vacation to Florida , come by the Bilmar on Treasure Island,Fla. some Wedsnesday evening and say "Hi!".

What's the difference between "Old" Tom Jones and "Old"
guys playing Dixieland? See the below snip from the NY Times today. He still
makes the music sexy, how about us? <grin>

A One-Man Variety Show Who Can Still Get the Fans Screaming

Silver-haired and 68, Tom Jones was still the target of flying undergarments
when he performed at Terminal 5 on Tuesday night. He drew happy screams when he
ran a hand along his thigh, tossed away his jacket or widened his eyes as he
delivered a risqué lyric. . . . )snip to) . . . He brought a full band — with
a horn section and shimmying backup singers — that hopscotched through eras
and styles: big-band swing, 1960s soul, disco, waltzes. His repertory is one
Welshman’s grab bag of American music, connected by his attentiveness to the
ladies and the way he sings. . . .
