[Dixielandjazz] Shameless Self-Promotion!

Hi Marek,

Thanks for your congratulations! I'll pass them on to the other seven guys,
who all deserve it as much as I do. I think another of the reasons that the
younger jazz fraternity take my band seriously is that our arrangements
embrace the whole of jazz history, while paying respect to the recordings of
the early masters. The charts are shaped by the character of the
composition, so quite early pieces, like Jelly's Jungle Blues, can turn out
sounding quite contemporary (after the intro it consists of only one chord,
so it invites modal interpretation). Having said that, people who know their
early jazz recordings will still recognise lots of passages from these
recordings woven into new arrangements, so that the old and familiar is
combined with the new and unfamiliar, which I believe emphasises the
timelessness of the great music of the early jazz masters. I guess being
sufficiently different to stand out from both the ultramodernists and the
ultratraditionalists, helps when it comes to public polls.

Regards,

Ken

Hello Ken,
I can only join the others' congratulations - too late to be first!
Cheers
