Greetings from Chris Tyle-see that he's writing from Austria. He's answered
the question about the strange-looking trumpet. Chris, I'm taking liberty
of posting this also on DJML as Suhor just gave me permission to post.
Wishing you well on your tour! We always learn something from your posts!
Keep them coming.

Hello all,
The trumpeter is playing a rotary valve trumpet, which is generally the
standard among classical players in Germany and Austria (which is where I am
right now, btw).
They may do their own arrangements but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot is
"appropriated" from stocks. But many bands in the "golden days" did the same
thing. Rather a brisk tempo for "Cream in My Coffee," imho.
But what an incredible audience!!!
Cornetist Jean-Francois Morel, leader of the French band "Le Rois du
Foxtrot," writes his own arrangements. A new CD by them, Crazy 'Bout Red
Headed Mamas, is available on Stomp-Off (with notes by yours truly).
Cheers,
Chris Tyle

This from jazz author/percussionist/ English prof Charlie Suhor, Montgomery,
AL. Each video is approx 3 minutes.
Hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
Question about the trumpeter in Raabe's band. Special trumpet or just
holding it sideways?
See Charlie's comments and then enjoy the brief videos.
I think Vince Giordono's Nighthawks might fit in same category which Suhor
mentions. Glad that Karl Koenig's band is still active from time to time.
Karl was active early with the American Federation of Jazz Societies.
