Lots of players make a living doing country music and play jazz for fun. Some go beyond that, as was the case with Hank "Sugarfoot" Garland who was a 'blazing' bebop guitarist. Dig his album "Jazz Winds From A New Direction" using Joe Morello and Gene Wright as sidemen. Some really beautiful stuff.
 
Country music is full of improvisation and improvisers.
