>I read somewhere recently that George Shearing is 90 years old.
I wrote a report of a George Shearing CD to DJML a few years back when I
bought the CD. I believe there was information then about him being in his
late 80's.
To refresh people's memory.......this is most likely his latest recording
entitled
"Favorite Things, solo piano" on Telarc CD-83398. His "Angel Eyes" is a
must listen!
And, if you really want to hear Shearing sing, you can on one song on this
album. :>
If anyone is a piano nut, go out and get this CD now.
The reason I wrote originally about the CD was that Telarc go on & on about
their 20 bit recording, listing the mikes used, and even the monitors they
used (& the amp!) during mixing!
"During the recording of the digital masters and the subsequent transfer to
disc, the signal was not passed through any processing devise (i.e.,
compression, limiting, or eq) at any stepo during production".
Nevertheless, there are pops and clacks throughout! These may or may not be
heard on domestic equipment, but can easily be heard in the studio. I
actually listened on the same speakers they used to monitor the mix.
I traded the CD for another at the shop. Same noises were there. I wrote
to Telarc to let them know they (at least in Europe) had a bad pressing out
there. No answer. So much for all the details explained on the liner
notes. Perhaps they should have used some processing! :>
Anyway, the music is there....marvelous! Go out and buy.
