Mike, do what Chuck Cecil used to do when copying 78s to tape for his radio 
show, "The Swingin' Years."

He would record the 78 at 32 IPS.  Then splice out any ticks.  At that 
speed, you can take the tick out and you never know it has been taken out. 
I mean, such a little portion of the music is gone, that you cannot tell it.

Then re-record it on a CD.
