Here is a you tube link of Hot House with that "stride and ragftime
specialist" Dick Hyman on piano along with Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie
Parker, and Charlie Smith or is it Max Roach?,on drums. Turn the sound
way up at the end and you may hear Hyman resolving Dizzy's unresolved
ending.

Yes, Dameron wrote Hot House, but it is based on the chord changes of
Cole Porter's "What Is This Thing Called Love." Lots of so-called
bebop tunes were re-writes over the chord changes of American Songbook
Tunes. One can hum "What Is This Thing Called Love" along with Hot
House, to hear the changes. Also, don't you love the "You boys got
anything more to say?" Politically Incorrect these days. <grin>

Maybe Hyman had fond memories of playing it with Bird and Dizzy in
1952 and that's why he wanted to do the tune again with Billy Taylor?
He is, as you say, a piano specialist who can come closer to those Art
Tatum runs than anyone else I ever heard.

Cheers,
