[Dixielandjazz] Sacrilege

The tune is "Hot House," by Tadd Dameron.

I first heard Dick Hyman at the Half Note in NYC in the early 60's, playing with Clark Terry and Bobby Brookmyer. I remember that Gus Johnson was on drums, but I can't recall the bass player. But Hyman was definitely playing post-bebop piano that night, and I was surprised when he later popped up as a stride and ragtime specialist. I actually think he's a PIANO specialist who can play just about anything.

Oh no! The wonderful stride and ragtime pianist Dick Hyman is really a closet BOPSTER!!!!! To see him enjoying himself from full chorus to trading fours with Billy Taylor, see:

The song is Charlie Parker's version of "What Is This Thing Called Love".

Yeah, Yeah, one eyes I know, that's not jazz. Ok, then tell it to Hyman. <grin>
