Hello,
I've got all the Victor 1936 recordings, and a radio broadcast
cassette I purchased in London (actually, I have most of the ODJB
recordings made before 1922).
As to rhythm, it is certainly not worth than that of many black bands
of the 1920's; Tony Sbarbaro WAS a great drummer. Despite what Humpj
jhad to say about the 1936 recordings (his words sent a group of us to
listen again and again to the 1917 Tiger Rag, the NORK Tiger Rag and
the 1936 one), they have much more relaxed and swinging "feel" and
rhythm than the earlier ones.
Cheers
