Memorial DVD
Greetings folks,
On 2nd January, Martin Litton, James Evans and I assembled at St John’s
Arts Centre in Old Harlow to record and film a new album of classic
Ragtime and Jelly Roll Morton compositions.
Martin Litton is recognised as an authority on early jazz piano styles
(he recently appeared on a Radio Three documentary on Earl Hines). He
has cleverly arranged ‘The Entertainer’, ‘Maple Leaf Rag’ and others by
Scott Joplin for clarinet, piano & drums.
A well respected interpreter of Jelly Roll Morton, Martin has come up
with some sparkling arrangements of a handful of Morton classics,
including, ‘Kansas City Stomp’, ‘The Pearls’ and ‘Grandpa’s Spells’.
Also included are selections from James Scott, J Russell Robinson and a
James Evans original.
I have done a rough mix of the sound and dubbed it onto the film we shot
of ‘Steamboat Stomp’ on 2nd January and you can see this on YouTube.
