Leslie Carole (Lindstrom) Johnson
Johnson, Leslie Carole (Lindstrom) On January 17, "The Mississippi Rag", a
monthly
publication known as "The Voice of Traditional Jazz and Ragtime", fell
silent with
the passing of its founder/ publisher after a three and a half year battle
with cancer.
Leslie was born on June 16, 1942 to Lester and Lillian Lindstrom,
Bloomington, Minn.,
now deceased. She is survived by husband, Will Shapira, Minneapolis;
children, Tony
Johnson, Minneapolis; Renee Burnett (Allen), Chicago; stepchildren, Eve
Roycraft
(Tom), Little Canada; Stephen Shapira (Cris), St. Paul; five
stepgrandchildren; brother,
Gary Lindstrom (Sandi), Shakopee; sisters, Debra Peterson (Phil) and Jody
Hughes
(John) all of Bloomington; former husband, Dennis Johnson (Alice Ripley),
Burnsville
and cousins, nieces and nephews who already miss her more than words can
express.
With the December 2008 issue she completed 35 years of publishing the RAG
without
missing a deadline. Leslie's passing leaves a void in the world of jazz and
ragtime
and in the hearts of musicians, writers, photographers, educators and
thousands of
loyal subscribers worldwide. Memorials to N.C. Little Hospice, Edina, MN;
Hubert
H. Humphrey Cancer Center, or New Orleans Musicians' Clinic. Interment
Bloomington
Cemetery. Funeral Mass 12:00 noon Thursday, January 22 at Church of St.
Richard,
7540 Penn Ave. S., Richfield. Visitation 1 hour prior to service Thursday at
church
and also 5-8 PM Wednesday at: Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel 952-920-3996
