Hello Listmates,

I think the reaction taken by so many here on that "Making Love to the Audience" is attributable to the current age of Political Correctness.  The term "making love" has a built-in double-entendre.  It can also be construed as meaning "pitching woo", "romancing", or "communicating warmth".  Then, of course, there is the physical meaning that some people (you should excuse the expression) conceive.

I certainly think that schmoozing the audience is perfectly acceptable, and wins friends and influences people.  That, dear friends, is Show Biz.
